Year 1 (Doves) have been exploring the elements of fire and ice in their topic in class as well as hands on at forest school. They have also been introduced to the Wild Passport curriculum topics of Fire, Tools, Shelter, Nature and Rope. We have learned to whittle using potato peelers, practiced our tree climbing, fed the birds, concocted weird and wonderful things in the mud kitchen and toasted a lot of marshmallows!
Year 2 (Owls) have been very industriously making things, they have made a coat hanger for the forest school site, lots of keyrings and wooden owls. They have started using knives for whittling, climbing trees and getting very muddy in the mud kitchen. We also made hot chocolate using the kelly kettle over the fire and made smores.
Today, 10 of our Year 4 children visited Marston Vale Middle School for a fun based sports festival run by Redborne School Sports Partnership. They had a fantastic time and were a credit to the school showing their values throughout the morning.
When Robins returned to school from the weekend, they were astonished to see that there was an egg in their nest. They discussed what it could be and wrote notes to keep the egg safe. They made 2D shape dinosaur pictures in Maths and started to create their skeleton dinosaurs and landscapes. Robins also discussed the importance of recycling rubbish, sorting into recycling piles and described their properties.
Last week Robins started their Dinosaur adventure by visiting our dinosaur park – we had lots of visitors! We named and described the features of a dinosaur and explored fossils, rocks and became excavators to dig for dinosaur bones. We were very excited to explore dinosaur ice eggs and experimented with a variety of ways to melt the ice eggs. We found out that warm salt water was the best.
We were amazed by the fantastic costumes of our children and staff this world book day… it is great to see the children’s love of reading come to life. A big thank you to everyone that took part in our book swap which provided our children with the wonderful opportunity to swap books that they have previously enjoyed with other children in the school.
Hawks spent an afternoon hunting around the room trying to find clues to help them complete their research on Hadrian’s wall. A fun activity and a great way to learn.
Eagles Class this term have been learning about the different states of matter: gas, liquid and solid.
Hawks class have enjoyed acting out how to zip it, block it and flag it in today’s workshop. We created a gamertag in pairs with a picture (pose) for it.
The children have enjoyed exploring their new climbing frame, it is the most challenging equipment the preschool has had and they have been amazing at it. They have been extremely careful as they moved around the frame.
