Last week Robins began their new Topic “Amazing Adventures” learning all about Dinosaurs. They have been drawing and writing facts about their favourite dinosaur, discovering Palaeontologist Mary Annings’ fossil findings, learning what a fossil is, doing a dinosaur dig and creating some beautiful landscapes with dinosaur silhouettes. We also had pancake races in PE… What a fun and busy week!
We have received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Royal British Legion for our support in raising £155.99 for the Poppy Appeal in November – thank you to everyone who made a donation!
KS1 and Ks2 have had a brilliant day engaging in workshops for Safer Internet Day today, around the national theme of ‘Want to talk about it?’ – Making space for conversations about life online. They had loads of fun learning about this very important topic. Our foundation children engaged by reading a story and creating a “Magic Window” based on a world they would like to see.
This week Samuel Pepys paid Doves class a visit and ran our workshop for the Great Fire of London, he taught all of the children about the great catastrophe that befell London. The children learned about how the story started – they charted its journey through London and found out how the people tried to put it out. They did lots of activities throughout the day such as creating a piece of artwork through creating a background burning sky with pastels and a cutting technique to fashion buildings significant to London. The children got the chance to practice chain-ganging (the method used to transport water from the river Thames to the fire and back). As well as quill writing, a scavenger hunt, a quiz, learning a dance routine and dressing up using some props.
Owls Class have been embracing the freedom of being back at Forest School, becoming expert tree climbers and building their own rope swing. They have made bird feeders, flags, bandanas, bows and arrows, wooden owls with hammers and nails and have learned to use square lashings to make ladders out of sticks and rope. They are getting the hang of lighting fires with fire steels and cotton wool as tinder. They have toasted marshmallows to make s’mores and had lots of hot chocolate to keep them warm.
Robins have been excited to start their new topic “Once Upon a Time”. They have been growing and looking after their own cress, learning new songs for Jack and the Beanstalk and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They have also enjoyed creating a variety of pictures relating to fairy tales.
Eagles class have learned to whittle a point on the end of a stick with a knife enabling them to make spears, arrows and tent pegs. We have a few craftsmen in the group that are always making beautiful things out of natural items and wool and pipecleaners. They have cooked bread on a stick and smores over the fire and made hot chocolate in the kelly kettle.
This group has done a lot of tree climbing and building treehouses and zip lines. They have excellent gross motor skills and are not afraid to challenge themselves. They love a game of tug-o-war and stick fighting and have really developed in their ability to control themselves in play. We had a lot of rain and rainbows this term!
Robins have been learning about the season of Winter and Arctic animals and how they keep warm. They have explored ice, painted polar bears and penguins and made a large home for an arctic fox.
