Doves have been learning to use tools like potato peelers for whittling, saws for creating things out of wood and loppers for cutting firewood. It’s been very wet and we have had some massive puddles to play in which they have absolutely loved. We have progressed with fire lighting skills and a couple of children are able to light cotton wool to make a small fire.
Today some of our KS1 students got the opportunity to participate in a Tag Rugby Skills Event organised by Redborne Upper School. The children had a fantastic time and enjoyed learning new skills!
Doves Class have been learning to use tools, make fires, build dens and help wildlife. They learned about hibernation, bird identification and had a wonderful day playing in the puddles after the heavy rain and were lucky enough to see a rainbow.
Owls Class have had a couple of challenging sessions this term where they had to move indoors as the strong winds meant they couldn’t use the Forest School site. But they made the most of it and they learned how to use knives to whittle. They sang to the trees to help them grow, they celebrated Chinese New Year with crafts and learned to say Happy New Year in Chinese. They practiced tree climbing, using tools, building dens and making fires.
We are excited to announce that we’ve launched our Facebook page!
A massive well done to our winner for completing the Virtual Race to Lapland!
Eagles have had their last session for their time at Houghton Conquest Lower School, sadly. They have learned to tie knots, use knives, light fires and build dens and generally just enjoyed being out in the wild. They cooked and made hot drinks and really worked well as a team. They are very imaginative and love to make up their own games and role play.
Hawks have been absolute stars this half term, they are really engaged well with Forest School activities. They have learned to tie knots, light fires and keep them going, use the saw, knives, loppers and drills. They have done lots of den building and are fantastic tree climbers. They have cooked over the fire and become experts at making hot chocolate.
This December the children have enjoyed a range of different winter/Christmas themed texture tray activities. We have had the Artic animals, a snowy town with trains, making marks in fake snow and a candy cane.
